Pet Therapy Program

Anyone who has ever owned a pet knows of the unconditional love and acceptance pets bring. The Pet Therapy Program from the Humane Society of Greater Miami brings the unique and healing human/animal bond to residents and patients of healthcare facilities, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, schools, court rooms, and senior citizen homes across Miami.

The effect of volunteering at such places is priceless, and it is a great community service project especially for dog-lovers of all ages!

Maya Levy was a large part of the Dog Therapy Program for over five years. During her weekly visits to Regents Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center she spent time with many residents-learning about their past and being a great source of comfort to them. Maya and her brother Ethan went every Friday after school to Regents Park Nursing & Rehabilitation center, talking with patients and brightening up their day. Many enjoyed petting their dog, Choco, and talking with Maya and Ethan in English, Spanish, and Hebrew. Both Maya, Ethan, and Choco have been recognized by the Humane Society of Greater Miami as 'shining stars' in the program.

Since moving to Boston Maya has unfortunately stopped volunteering through pet therapy but her brother has continued the Friday tradition!
